International Week Information

January 25, 2012

International Week is January 30-February 3

Each year at Calvert, we celebrate a variety of languages and cultures during our International Week. The school takes on a festive air with colorful flags from around the world; daily greetings are in the target language; students receive a “souvenir” each morning; snacks and lunches relate to each day’s theme; and a variety of activities happen throughout the week in homeroom and special subject classes.

The languages/cultures highlighted this year will be:

French Monday, January 30th
Japanese Tuesday, January 31st
German Wednesday, February 1st
Swahili Thursday, February 2nd
Spanish Friday, February 3rd

Parents and relatives, if any of the above languages/cultures are a part of your family heritage, you are invited to come to school and share with your child’s class (i.e. read a story, do a craft, play music, teach a dance, tell about traditions, pass out food samples, present clothing and other items, share photographs, …)

Three years ago in the Middle School, we introduced workshops hosted by parents, relatives, teachers and friends, where our students experienced several cultures hands on. They have been a success! Due to your support and dedication, that tradition continues this year. The students look forward to this week when they have the opportunity to learn and interact with different cultures in meaningful and fun ways. There are still so spots available, so consider being a presenter… all are welcome! If interested please contact Sandra Sachar at ssachar@calvertschoolmd.org.

In the Lower School, please contact your child's homeroom teacher by January 20th if you are interested in participating.
