Eighth Graders Learn Art of Glassblowing

Mrs. Kamp’s Eighth Grade artists visited McFadden Art Glass, a glass studio, on Wednesday. Students saw how the studio works and learned about the glassblowing process from owner Tim McFadden. They then created their own glass ornament!
First, molten glass was gathered on the end of a blow pipe before students rolled it onto colored glass bits of their choice. After reheating and shaping the glass on a metal table, students worked at the bench to further shape the piece while a friend blew air into the pipe to create the hollow form. The last step involved separating the form from the pipe and adding a hanger to the top from another small gather of glass. The results are beautiful!
