Calvert Summer Camps 2016

During the month of June, many students attended Calvert School’s summer camps. We were very proud to offer 15 summer camps over the course of three weeks in June. Each week, families were able to choose a Sports camp, an Arts camp, a STEM camp or a general camp for younger children. Calvert summer camps enabled students to improve and explore their creativity, imagination, athleticism, and sense of community in a safe and familiar environment.
There was something for everyone at Calvert’s summer camps. Some of the activities that students had the opportunity to partake in included: playing in a basketball tournament, building their own arcade game, designing and building prosthetic limbs, performed in a play on stage, made tie-dyed t-shirts, had a tea party with their dolls, dressed up like a super-hero, and gathered as a community to enjoy Kona Ice snow cones each week.

In July, the Calvert Explorers’ program took students around the world with this year’s theme, “The Olympics”. Each day of this one-week program allowed campers to explore different places around the world through a variety of activities. Campers studied Athens, Kenya, Sydney, Tokyo, and Rio de Janeiro. Campers participated in a reading and math lessons in the morning. Then, in the afternoon they enjoyed cooking, crafts, and games.

Also during three weeks of July, Calvert offered the second QUEST (Question, Understand, Experiment, Solve, Test) summer program. QUEST is part of the Middle Grades Partnership Program (MGP) that forges connections between public and private school communities. This three-week program challenged and engaged rising 6th grade and 7th grade students. Each week focused on a specific theme, these themes included engineering, app design and programming, as well as city planning and architecture. Students participated in projects teaching them Newton’s three laws of motion, designed and tested an Android app, and planned an urban city which was then built in a 3-D model of their design.

Thank you to all those that spent time with us this summer. The teachers are already excited for next summer!
