Steve Berman & Heidi Kenny-Berman, Current Parents

Steve Berman and Heidi Kenny-Berman are current parents with two children Ben (Tenth Age) and Ava (Eighth Age). Heidi also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees. We asked Heidi to define why they love and support Calvert School.
According to Heidi, “The education that we provide our children is the best gift that we can ever give to them. It’s intangible, so no one can ever take it away from them. Supporting Calvert School is not only supporting my children, but also all of the children, teachers, and the Calvert Community as a whole. Our support is an investment in our children and their future, which means more than the annual tuition payment. It’s a vision, so it goes beyond the tenure of our children’s time at Calvert. The continued success of the school is a testament of the validity of our children’s education in the future. Calvert School is one of our top philanthropic recipients.

There’s something greater occurring at Calvert beyond the exchange between tuition dollars paid and the annual education received. Support is synonymous with involvement or participation. Support can be defined in many ways, but so often, many attribute a financial contribution to the meaning of the word. For us, our support goes beyond making a pledge. Our financial contributions are secondary to our involvement with the school. The payback is seeing a thriving community in which our kids are growing and learning. Thus, it takes everyone’s support—however it’s defined—for Calvert to be successful.”

Heidi is passionate about Calvert School and says “I like that Calvert’s identity goes beyond the elementary education experience. I have yet to encounter another elementary education experience that children identify and associate with beyond high school and college. The “Calvert Way” is a phenomenon. The fact that so many alumni identify themselves as Calvert students first and foremost and associate with their Calvert friends as adults is a strong indication of the experience that these children received. We are blessed to be able to provide this opportunity to our children and participate and support such a nurturing and thriving Calvert School Community.”
