Second Annual Student-Led Bingo Night

On November 18th, Calvert School hosted its second annual Family Bingo Night.
Family Bingo Night is a night of fun with the Calvert community. The event is both organized and ran by Seventh Grade student leaders. This event provides our Seventh Graders with the opportunity to plan, manage, and execute a fully-functioning event with over 300 attendees. Planning began six weeks before the event, and students met with internal teams to plan the event’s theme, poster design, community donations, concessions, and prize planning. Seventh Grader Ashton M. recalls, “we worked alongside Mrs. Crawford, Ms. Passalacqua, and Mr. Holmgren to plan prizes, and it was really empowering knowing that the adults wanted us to be involved.”

On the night of the event, fifteen Seventh Graders volunteered to assist with setting up and breaking down, decorations, concessions, a photo booth, and even taking turns being The Mighty Bee. At the end of the event, the boys and girls stayed to help break down 40 tables, hundreds of chairs, clean up trash and return the concessions to the kitchen. This event was an opportunity for the students to shine as leaders. 7th Graders Ellen S. and Alexis W. noted  “ We had a great time organizing donations to give to Hampden Family Center and BARCS Animal Shelter, and learned confidence in communicating with their volunteers on behalf of Calvert. We were able to donate over 200 pounds of canned goods, and three large boxes of pet supplies”.
