Middle School Spanish Teacher

Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has an opening for a full-time Spanish Teacher for its Middle School for the 2025-26 school year. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83. 
 
Students at Calvert begin studying Spanish in the lower school and continue their track of Spanish language study as a core academic subject in middle school. Students will experience increased target language usage by the teacher and will build proficiency in comprehension as a foundation for their continued work in expression. Group projects and increased use of authentic sources are used to expose students to relevant linguistic, cultural, and grammatical themes. The teacher will be responsible for teaching Spanish to students in Fifth and Sixth Grades.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver age-appropriate Spanish lessons and create a classroom culture of respect, inclusivity, and enthusiasm for language learning.
  • Design assessments and use data to monitor and support student progress.
  • Integrate cultural components into lessons to enhance students' global awareness.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
  • Manage classroom behavior using positive, proactive strategies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, including language department team members and grade-level teachers.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress.
  • Participate in school-wide activities, professional development, and curriculum planning.
  • Attend field trips, on occasion, and serve on school committees.
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field and must be proficient in Spanish (oral and written). A Master’s degree a plus.
  • Experience teaching middle school students.
  • Experience using technology in the classroom (e.g., Google Classroom, language learning apps).
  • Candidates must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills. 
Calvert School offers a competitive salary and benefits package.  Salaries for teachers are based on years of teaching experience, education, and job-related responsibilities. The salary range for teachers is $50,000 to $70,000 and candidates with additional teaching experience and/or advanced degrees may receive a higher salary. Calvert School offers medical, prescription, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans.
