Lower School STEM Teacher
Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is searching for a Lower School STEM Teacher. This is a one-year, temporary position for the 2019-20 school year. Calvert School is dedicated to educating girls and boys through its time-tested method of teaching and its rigorous curriculum. Particular emphasis is given to mastering essential skills, inspiring a lifelong love of learning, and instilling enthusiasm, responsibility, and self-discipline. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland, accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
The teacher will lead a project-based curriculum focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math for children in Kindergarten through Fourth Grades. The teacher will use age-appropriate themes to demonstrate the ability to create and implement strategies for weaving STEM experiences into multi-disciplinary curricula. In addition to managing the daily affairs of a classroom teacher communicate frequently with parents and collaborate with other teachers. Faculty members are expected to contribute to the Calvert community as coaches, club advisors, and will serve on school committees on occasion.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Science or a related field. Prior teaching experience and/or a Master’s degree would be a plus. Candidates must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
