Part-Time Lower School Science Teacher

Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has an immediate need for a Lower School Small Groups Science Teacher for the 2020-21 school year. Calvert School is dedicated to educating girls and boys through its time-tested method of teaching and its rigorous curriculum. Particular emphasis is given to mastering essential skills, inspiring a lifelong love of learning, and instilling enthusiasm, responsibility, and self-discipline. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland, accessible from Charles Street and I-83. 
 
The teacher will teach 10 to 12 students per class and will instruct two science classes to Kindergarten and pre-First students. The teacher will need to arrive by 12:30 P.M. each day and work until 3:00 P.M. In addition to managing the daily affairs of a classroom, teachers communicate frequently with parents and collaborate with their grade-level team members to develop curriculum that is motivating and age appropriate. Faculty members are expected contribute to the Calvert community as coaches, club advisors, and will serve on school committees on occasion.
 
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with prior teaching experience. Experience teaching science to lower school students is a plus, and a master’s degree is preferred. Candidates must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
