Middle School Has a Successful First Mini-Week

Mini-Week was a three-day interdisciplinary workshop where students explored exciting new learning opportunities beyond traditional courses. Each student received an individualized schedule with courses in enrichment, arts, wellness, and service opportunities.
Courses were offered by teachers, parents, and other guests and included international dance, food science, Japanese, yoga, archery, politics, screenwriting, digital photography, journalism, Pompeii, and many more. Students also had the opportunity to travel off campus for various enrichment, outdoor, and service activities including visiting a dairy farm, biking the NCR trail, working at Paul’s Place, and visiting a courtroom. These experiences allowed students to learn new things and explore developing interests. Special thanks to our wonderful Middle School teachers for offering amazing courses and to our parents and guests including, Judge Pastore-Klein, Suzumi Yasutake, Dipti Shah, Jessica Anya Blau, Sheree Carter Chase, Judge Bennett, Teri Mascuch, Lou Compton, Robin Strom, Ariel Taxdal, and Kate Umbarger-Dallam.

Embedded within Mini-Week was an intentional effort to provide each student with a meaningful service-learning experience inside or outside of school. Over two dozen students spent a day at Paul’s Place, serving the homeless in their clothing shop and cafeteria. Additionally, Mini-Week launched our new partnership with ShareBaby, an organization that supports the needs of young mothers and families across Baltimore. In fact, we can all pitch in to support ShareBaby by bringing needed infant supplies to Bingo Night on Friday, November 16th. Students also participated in food packing sessions for the Baltimore Hunger Project, cleaned trash from two miles of Stony Run Stream, and completed a myriad of community service projects on campus.

Congratulations on all the students, teachers, and friends who made Mini-Week a smashing success!
