  • Academic Dean

    Since 1897, Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has been providing an excellent education for children in the Baltimore area. Calvert School serves highly motivated students from supportive families who are invested in a Kindergarten through Eighth Grade model.
     
    Through its time-tested method of teaching and its rigorous curriculum, Calvert School is dedicated to educating girls and boys. Particular emphasis is given to mastering essential skills, inspiring a lifelong love of learning, and instilling enthusiasm, responsibility, and self-discipline.
     
    Calvert School is currently seeking an Academic Dean to begin in July 2017. The Academic Dean is responsible for overseeing the academic program plans of the lower and middle schools and develops strategies to achieve the School’s educational goals and objectives. The position focuses on curriculum, instruction, and faculty professional development. Additionally, the Academic Dean will coordinate standardized testing and will examine student data. The Dean will be a member of the School’s Administration team and will serve on Board Committees and other cross-departmental committees, as needed. This is a 12-month position and will require some evening and weekend work.
     
    Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years of administrative and/or teaching experience. A Master’s degree and experience in the lower or middle school levels is strongly preferred. Experience in working with an independent private school is a plus and candidates must have the ability to work with independence in dealing with the diverse elements of the academic environment. This position requires absolute confidentiality and professionalism.

  • Admission Evaluator and Learning Specialist

    Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is searching for an Admission Evaluator and Learning Specialist to start in mid-August 2017. The ideal candidate will evaluate prospective students in the morning and will provide learning support to lower school students in the afternoon. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland, accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
     
    Responsibilities will include the following:
     
    Admission Evaluator –
    • Evaluate children to analyze qualifications of prospective students utilizing established admissions standards, guidelines, and criteria. Participate in activities involved in the recruitment and selection of student applicants for admission to Calvert School.
    • Assist with the planning of Admission events and attend events as required.
    • Speak to parents of children who have been accepted to Calvert to assist them with the decision process. Give additional tours of the school upon request.
    • Participate in outreach to preschools in the area to learn about their programs.
    • Assist in the transition of new students in the fall.
     
    Learning Specialist –
    • Work in partnership with families and teachers to provide academic support and services to Lower School students.
    • Help to address individual student learning differences and to assist with appropriate course placement of students.
    • Teach individual students with diagnosed learning differences on a one-on-one or small group basis.
    • Assist faculty in designing and implementing lesson plans and curriculum to meet the needs of students and their learning styles.
    • Work closely with the Head of Lower School to make appropriate referrals for outside testing, tutoring and/or academic coaching that may be needed.
    • Contribute to the Calvert community in other ways as a coach, club advisor, or by serving on committees on occasion.
    The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with three to five years of experience in admissions or as a learning specialist. A Master’s degree is strongly preferred and experience working in an independent private school is a plus. The candidate must have the ability to work with independence in dealing with the diverse elements of the academic environment.   • Lower School Substitute Music Teacher

    Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is searching for Substitute Teachers for its Lower School to teach music. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland, accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
     
    Substitute teachers play a pivotal role in the overall education of our students. When our teachers are absent we rely on quality substitute teachers to help ensure continuation of regular school classes and activities. We are looking for talented professionals to teach music who are committed to working with students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. Substitute teachers are needed for daily assignments and hours and work will vary based on need. Class sizes range from 15 to 20 students. Calvert School pays substitute teachers $12.00/hour.
     
    Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma and a Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Prior teaching experience is a plus. A State of Maryland and FBI background check will be performed.

  • Middle School Science Teacher

    Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is searching for a full-time Science Teacher for its Middle School for the 2017-18 school year. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland, accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
     
    The teacher will be responsible for teaching Physical Science and Chemistry to students in Seventh and Eighth Grades. The teacher will also be responsible for managing the daily affairs of a classroom including parent education and communications, teacher collaborations, and other school based duties and responsibilities. Teachers are expected to contribute to the Calvert community as coaches and club advisors and to serve on school committees on occasion.
     
    The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree with priorteaching experience in physical science and chemistry. A Master’s degree and prior experience teaching middle school aged students is preferred. Candidates must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.

  • After School Care Aides

    Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is searching for part-time After School Care Aides for its After School Care program for the 2016-17 school year. Calvert’s After School Care program provides care for children ages four to 13.
     
    This is a great opportunity for someone looking for work in a supportive and friendly environment and for college students looking for part-time work. The school is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University, accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
     
    The Aides will work under the supervision of the Director of Enrichment Programs. The hours of work are Monday through Friday from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Schedules are created around college schedules and candidates do not have to be available all five days each week.
     
    Qualifications of the ideal candidate include the following:
    • Must be 19 years or older and have a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.
    • First Aid and CPR certified preferred (will provide training for certification, if needed).
    • Completion of 45 hours in School Age and Child Growth and Development curriculum or 6 semester hours of each in ECE a plus.
    • Must have a strong work ethic, be dependable, and have strong communication skills.
     
    This position pays $10.00/hour and a State of Maryland and FBI background check will be performed.
