Middle School Fine Arts Night

Fine Arts Night returned to Calvert School on May 10th. Families had the opportunity to see performances by music and drama classes, including Calvert Chorus and the C-flats. New to this year was the addition of a visual art showcase.
The Middle School Fine Arts Night Showcase was a fantastic success! Colorful pieces of artwork were on display in the Atrium, for family members to peruse. Ms. Leonard's art room was a hub of activity, with parents seeing first-hand demonstrations of how displayed artwork had been made. Music could be heard in every corner, whether it be piano students entrancing guests on the grand in the Leutkemeyer House, or Annelise O. ’18 serenading incoming guests with lilting melodies on her classical guitar. At the center of the evening was a performance in the Assembly Hall, kicked into high gear by the C-flats, Calvert's Seventh and Eighth Grade a capella group. Seventh Grader Benham C. transformed the Assembly Hall into an immersive musical experience by designing vivid lighting to enhance each act. In addition to giving joyful and spirited performances, several students stepped up to accompany other students, whether it be Channing L. ’20 on ukulele, or Annelise O. ’18 and Tolliver W. ’19 on guitar. From the Drama department, Clementine Q. ’20 and Claire M. ’20 performed a charged scene between two girls deciding whether or not to be bold and wear red lipstick to class. Guests also got a sneak peek at Eighth Grade filming projects, including a mock athletic update introducing Mario Kart as a new sport at Calvert. Spirits were high and the enjoyment by performers and audience alike were palpable.
