Teachers Attend National Diversity Practitioners Institute Over the Summer

Hosted by The Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning at St. Andrew's Episcopal School, the National Diversity Practitioners Institute was held June 24-27. Attending this memorable institute were Timika Tyson, Calvert School's Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Sandry Sachar, Director of Global Outreach.
This institute was designed for educators and administrators who wanted to examine best practices and deepen their understanding of creating equitable and inclusive school communities. Beginning with a pre-institute workshop on Sunday, June 24, The Doctors Are In, Ms. Tyson and Sra. Sachar collaborated with eighty-four dedicated educators from across the country for an in-depth look into building inclusive communities in our schools. This institute was not solely for diversity directors but anyone who desired to aid the building, sustaining, and maintaining inclusive school communities.

The four-day institute provided time for participants to deepen core knowledge around diversity, identity, and inclusion best practices, and provided a framework for developing and implementing trusted practice within Calvert School. Additionally, Ms. Tyson and Sra. Sachar exchanged ideas and received support from a strong cohort element built into the institute experience. The networking and sharing amongst passionate educators from across the country proved to be a fantastic professional growth experience for these two teachers, who are making great progress as teacher leaders here at Calvert.
