Lower School Students Create Cards for Children Displaced by California Wildfires

Calvert Lower School classes were invited to design caring cards for children displaced by the extensive fires this fall in California.
Often prepared in collaborative, cross-graded groups, the children reflected empathy and kindness with their creatively and thoughtfully prepared messages of encouragement on colorful cards adorned with stars, hearts, and flowers. Pausing in our daily routines to consider ways to brighten someone else’s day is one way in which Calvert children practice empathy and spread kindness. These gestures of kindness can make a huge difference for children preparing cards on the east and receiving them on the west coast.

We worked the Sydney Paige Foundation to facilitate the delivery of these cards to children in Paradise, California.
