Spring Sports Buzz 2019

Brian Vaught
As we close the books on the 2018-2019 year in athletics, it was another very fun and highly successful season for our student-athletes. Our Eighth Graders, the Class of 2019, leave the fields and courts of Calvert as some of the most successful in school history. Below is a brief recap of our spring sports season.
• Led by a veteran group of Eighth Graders, our Girls’ A Lacrosse team capped off an undefeated season with a signature win over previously unbeaten Garrison Forest on Krongard Field! Girls’ B Lacrosse used a balance of returning Seventh Grade leaders, and many new to the sport, to notch another winning season. On the boys’ side, our A team was again one of the top teams in the area beating local foes Boys’ Latin, Gilman, and St. Paul’s to secure another top 3 finish while our B team developed new talent to have another solid season.

• Baseball counted on the Sixth and Seventh Grade to carry the load with no returning Eighth Graders this spring. That didn’t stop them from earning their first “home” victory at Babb Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins University with a win over Concordia Prep!

• A & B tennis teams tallied a total of 9 wins this spring using a mix of seasoned Eighth Graders and new Sixth Graders. Our program grows in size and talent each spring as Calvert tennis continues to be one of the area’s best!

• Track did not let low participation numbers and injuries diminish their record-breaking year. The girls’ team captured the school’s first conference championship, winning the final meet at Coppin State this May and the boys’ team, with only seven healthy bodies, secured another top 5 finish!

Thanks to all of our faculty, staff, and students who continue to make Calvert athletics a fun, unique, and rewarding experience for all who wear the black and gold!
