Congratulations to the Calvert Middle School Squash Teams

On January 20, the Calvert School squash teams made their way to New Haven, Connecticut for the 2020 U.S. Squash Middle School National Tournament at Yale University. There were 96 teams present for the tournament.
Calvert arrived early Thursday evening and had time to play a round of King of the Court to warm-up. Each team played four matches in the tournament over the next few days; the Boys’ A team came in second place and Girls’ A team came in third overall in Division II. The students cheered each other on throughout the tournament, watching teammate’s matches when they themselves were not playing.

Coach Lears was excited to share, “I was impressed with all of our players. Everyone did such a great job! This was Cyrus B. ’20 third consecutive year participating in the tournament and he leaves his tournament time at Yale undefeated!”

After an exciting win in New Haven, both the Boys' A and Girls' A had one more big event to look to: Maryland State Middle School Championships held at our home court, Meadow Mill. The boys and girls headed to their matches on Tuesday afternoon where both teams made quick work of their first opponents. The second round of matches went well for both teams because our Calvert players are highly competitive and both teams are willing to put in the work.

It was a wonderful season for all of our squash teams at Calvert. We will miss the amazing talents of our Eighth Graders, but as always, the younger players have watched them with awe and respect and are now ready to take the reins of Calvert squash for many years to come.
