Buck Family Canoes Through Canada
Rick Buck ‘60, along with son Matt ‘87 and daughter Maggie Buck Holland ‘89, took to the Canadian waters this summer for a family canoe trip. The group spent four days exploring a provincial park known for its quartzite mountains and crystal clear waters near the north end of Lake Huron.
A Canadian pastime from voyageur days, one paddles a packed or “trimmed” canoe then “portages,” or carries, the canoe and all the gear across short trails between lakes. Though they each have taken a number of canoe trips over the years, it was the first time Rick, Matt, and Maggie went together. Matt shared, “I’m grateful to my sister for organizing it, for the closeness the three of us reformed, and for the reminder that I need to immerse myself in the wilderness more often.”
