Calvert @ Bryn Mawr

Have you felt it? It’s something lurking in the deep recesses of the minds of all Maryland independent school soccer teams. Like the unstoppable procession of time, an all-consuming force is emanating from Tuscany Road. Even as you read this, soccer teams from across the greater Baltimore area sense their hope for a championship fading, like a candle flickering, struggling to stay lit in the face of a terrible typhoon. What is this inevitable force tearing through soccer teams like a wrecking ball through a decaying wall? It’s the Calvert School soccer team, and they are looking for any and all challengers.
In the most explosive display of offensive firepower I’ve seen in all my years coaching, the girls poured in 8 goals against a feisty and resilient Bryn Mawr team. However, the Mawrtians best efforts couldn’t keep us from scoring whenever we needed to. The game started off with two quick goals within the first 8 minutes. It looked like it might be easy sailing from there, but Bryn Mawr responded with two quick finishes of their own. Luckily, we were able to gain back the advantage six minutes before the break, so take a 3-2 lead into halftime.
As we’ve shown many times before, the second half is where we shine, and the girls went supernova this time. Within a minute of the second half whistle, we put one in the back of the net to double our advantage. Four minutes after that, we had a three goal lead and it was 5-2. Bryn Mawr countered with a goal of their own to bring their deficit back to two, but that didn’t last long as the second half hat trick was completed just a few moments later. Bryn Mawr wouldn’t go down without a fight, and pulled one back though and the score was 6-4 with about 15 minutes to play.
At this point, we knew we couldn’t let the game slip away, and it was time to put the game to bed. Two more goals in the final seven minutes put the game completely out of reach, and gave us an astounding 8-4 win. The lopsided final tally belies the true competitiveness of the match, but the game was never in doubt in my mind. With that, we head into our final regular season game of the year, at home on Friday. With our win streak now at 5, we’ll look to extend it to 6 before heading into the postseason on November 1st.
