Winning together
What a season!
We started the season with a group of peer students and we finished it with a team of friends! Our Bees worked hard all practices, all games to make it happen. If Calvert had 3 losses in the beginning of the season, they were on a winning streak of 6 games. All with different scenarios, but with the ideas of being there for your teammates, whether from the bench or on the field.
No team could beat the bees in Krongard!
For this final, the Bees were playing against the other team in their league to have beat them: Cathedral School.
Saint James is a strong team and they look a lot like Calvert. They have a large roster of players composed by only a handful of 8th graders.
In our first confrontation, the Bees identified two Saint James players with amazing soccer skills. Our midfielders were ready to dedicate their time on the field defending on those players.
After the dramatic and physical semi-final, the Bees looked strong in the first half. We scored first. During a brief subbing in our midfield, Saint James had a bit of space and scored a goal after the save from Calvert goalie bounce back in their feet.
1-1 at Half. The Bees were confident in their plan, but they were not as aggressive on the ball as one would expect for a final. The coaches reminded them of what makes this teams a successful one!
During the second act, the Bees raised the bar and relentlessly run after any loss, any passes from Saint James, allowing only but a few shots. Relentlessly, this word you read a lot in the reports, but it defines what this team does, and does well.
The bees made it impossible for Saint James to develop their soccer and created many scoring chances. Our 8 graders attacking team lead the way with 2 goals in the beginning of the second act. It was time for the newer players to hop on the field and they get rewarded with a final goal by one of our younger player.
4-1 final score. A trophy for the Bees!
