Homecoming and Spirit Week

Homecoming and Spirit Week kicked off on Wednesday, May 6 with the 2nd Annual CS Day, the alumni online day of giving. With a $100 gift match, Calvert raisedover $11,000 for the Annual Fund! Students also showed their school spirit and made new friends during a Buddy Day activity to benefit Project Linus.
Our young artists showcased their semester’s work on Thursday at the Arts Spectacular. Eighth Graders presented their Castalia Projects, semester long research on the topic of their choosing. The Lower School Drama Club performed two short plays, How I Became a Pirate and Seussical! to an entranced audience. The Middle School also held Fine Arts Night in the Black Box Theater. Eighth Grade dancers, the chorus, and drama and music classes performed, and visual arts classes explained and presented their work. The evening concluded with a finale to Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida.”

Friday was a spirited day on campus with a black and gold dress down day for students and a festive tailgate during the boys’ and girls’ A lacrosse teams’ games. The boys defeated Ridgley Middle School, and the girls held onto their undefeated status with a win against Bryn Mawr.

Alumni returned to campus for the “Remember When” Luncheon and Alumni Cocktail Party. Members of the Class of 1933 to 1965 attended the Luncheon, including Ned Murray ’33, who is among the oldest living Calvert alumni. Eighth Grade student, Grace O., presented her Castalia Final Project on fashion design while the alumni were treated to a crab cake lunch. Later that night, alumni gathered on campus to celebrate over laughter and cocktails.

Reunions for the classes of 1935, 1960, 1965, 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, and 2000 took place Friday and Saturday evening at various venues around Baltimore. Friendships at Calvert last a lifetime, and four members of the Class of 1935 not only celebrated their 80th reunion, but also their 92nd birthdays in the month of May!

Families packed Brown Field on Saturday for Calvert Day, an afternoon of games, prizes, moon bounces, balloon animals, and ice cream! After a fun and festive weekend, everyone slept well, children and adults alike!

We hope to see or hear from our alumni before next year’s event, but mark your calendars now for May 12-14, 2016! Classes ending in 1s and 6s will be in reunion.
