Winter Sports Buzz: February 2017

A Mild Winter Brings a Successful Winter Sports Season
Calvert athletes that participated in winter sports this season were treated to an end of season party. The celebration included pizza, a bounce house, and a scavenger hunt throughout the school with all of the teams participating. It was a beautiful ending to an amazing winter of athletics. Having one of the least snowy winters on record, there was no need to cancel games or practice. This was a first in Calvert history.

Our winter teams were wildly successful. Calvert fielded five basketball teams this season, each doing a great job on the courts. The Sixth Grade boys’ basketball team went undefeated.

Squash had another successful season with both the Girls’ and Boys’ A teams winning Maryland State Championships. This was the fifth year for the boys and the third year for the girls. In addition to the A teams, the boys’ B and C teams also won championships!

Ice hockey had a great season as well; the coed team had some great battles with other area schools. All of the coaches were happy with the improvements their teams made throughout the season.

Spring sports will begin on March 6th. We hope our entire community comes out to support our players. Go Mighty Bees!
