Dr. Suber Huang '70 Wins Prestigious Award

Calvert School Alumnus, Dr. Suber Huang '70 is the 2018 recipient of the prestigious Jose Rizal International Medal from the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology. The Jose Rizal Medal is given to an outstanding ophthalmologist who has demonstrated excellence in ophthalmology in the Asia-Pacific region. It is the organization’s highest recognition for contributions to education and clinical care.
In 2017, Dr. Huang was inducted into The Retina Hall of Fame, comprised of more than 200 physician-scientists who have devoted their professional lives to innovation, research and clinical care in the field of retina diseases throughout the world. During his nearly three decades of clinical practice and scientific research, Dr. Huang has also held numerous leadership positions throughout the global ophthalmologic community, including that of current Chair of the National Institutes of Health’s National Eye Health Education Program and current American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) representative to the U.S. Pharmacopeia.
 
The award was presented at the APAO meeting on February 8, 2018, in Hong Kong, where Dr. Huang lectured on technological advancements, innovation, and collaboration in the treatment of blinding eye diseases.  Congratulations to Dr. Huang on his important work and for receiving such a high honor!
