Long-Term Substitute Teacher - Lower School Physical Education Teacher
Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has an opening for a temporary Long-term Substitute Teacher to teach Lower School Physical Education. The position will be available mid-January 2026 through April 2026. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
Substitute teachers play a pivotal role in the overall education of our students. The teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging physical education lessons that promote health, fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship for students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver developmentally appropriate physical education curriculum for Lower School students.
- Plan and implement daily lessons that support physical development and align with school values.
- Assess and document student progress and participation.
- Collaborate with the physical education department teachers and other Lower School faculty and administration to support student well-being.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all learners.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field.
- Prior experience teaching physical education, preferably in an elementary school setting is strongly encouraged.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
Schedule and Compensation:
- Compensation is $160.00/day.
- Work hours typically align with school hours, which are 7:45 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.
