BAC Championship vs Krieger Schecter

For the third year in a row, the Calvert School girls' soccer team have won the BAC championship! The game was a microcosm of the season itself. Just four minutes into the match we already found ourselves down a goal, just as our season started off on the wrong foot. However, just as we've done all season, we didn't give up and clawed our way back into the game. In retrospect, the goal turned out to be Krieger's one real opportunity. Almost the entirety of the remaining match took place in the middle and final thirds of the pitch and we kept the pressure on. In a fortunate turn on events for us, our pressure led to an own goal with four minutes remaining in the half to tie the score at 1. Then, as has become our custom, we started the second half strong and took the lead just three minutes into the half. This turned out to be the winning goal, and while we were close to adding some insurance, we had what we needed. It was a fitting end to a wonderful season and the girls celebrated accordingly.
With the season now in the rear view mirror, I would like to give some thanks. First, to my other coaches. Coach Meadows and Coach Simms gave this team everything and more. We couldn't have found the same success without their efforts behind the scenes in training and during games. Next, to our 8th grade class. This class excelled through difficult situations, particularly during their 7th grade year in the return from COVID. They set a great example for the younger players and we'll miss their leadership next year. I hope our 6th and 7th graders are ready to pick up where they left off! Finally, to all of our parents, thank you for your continued support throughout the season. I know it's not always easy watching from the sidelines, but you were all very supportive. Thank you for the kind gifts at the end of the season as well. They were greatly appreciated by the coaches.
With that, I'll sign off for the final time. Eight graders, I wish you look in high school and beyond. I look forward to attending some of your matches in the coming years! Sixth and Seventh graders, I'm already planning for next year, so stay sharp and we'll see you next season!
