The Institute for Leadership & Purpose is committed to building a comprehensive program that reaches Calvert School students, parents, faculty, and staff in meaningful ways. These events reflect our commitment to a holistic program that inspires, educates, and empowers all stakeholders. Together, we are raising leaders for tomorrow.

  • Middle Grades Partnership (MGP) Opening Leadership Summit

    In coalition with the Middle Grades Partnership and its eighteen member schools, The Institute for Leadership & Purpose is spearheading a school-year leadership program focusing on civic leadership in Baltimore. November 17th marks our full-day Leadership Summit that welcomes over 200 students from across the city.

    9:00 - Opening Session, Discovering Personal Leadership with Hamilton Middle and Calvert School Student Leaders
    9:30 - "Inspire" Opening Speaker, Fagan Harris, CEO Baltimore Corps
    10:00 - 12:00 PM: Collaboration in Action, Team Building and Design Thinking with Calvert School Faculty and Student Facilitators
    12:00 - 12:30: Lunch
    12:30 PM - 1:00 PM: Engage Speaker, Rachel Brooks, Senior Associate Organizer, BUILD
    1:00 - 2:30 PM: Action Planning Workshop, Student Leadership Action Plans, BUILD Community Organizers

  • Freedom from Chemical Dependency

    Our Middle School students meet with drug and alcohol counselors for substance abuse education.
  • Walk for Water

    Our Fifth Grade students and Sixth Age students participate in the Walk for Water, a global outreach initiative to promote clean drinking water in sub-Saharan Africa.
     
  • All School Toy Drive

    All School Toy Drive to Support the Hampden Family Center and Paul’s Place.
  • The Middle School Brain

    Coffee and conversation with Director of Academic Affairs, Sarah Crowley.
  • All School Morning of Service

    We will dedicate our morning to cross-divisional service initiatives, educating and collaborating on the Walk for Water, the Toy Drive, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
  • Winter Clothing Drive

    All School Clothing Drive to support Paul’s Place.

    Calvert Service Opportunity
    All are welcome!
     
     
    This is a family event, during which we welcome your children who attend Calvert or other schools. Please know that if you want your child to participate, an adult family member must participate as well. Our hope is that parents will work side by side with their children.

    Every year, volunteers from across the Calvert School community come together to celebrate the life and mission of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a day of service. Each year over two hundred students, parents and teachers work with over a dozen community partners both and on and off-campus.
  • Cool Schools Plunge

    2019 marks our third year supporting the Polar Bear Plunge and the Special Olympics of Maryland. This service initiative is inspired by Oliver C. ‘20, his sister Sutton, and the Clark family’s passion for educating and bringing awareness to the needs of those with physical and mental disabilities. Our entire Eighth Grade will participate in the plunge and raise money.
  • All School Morning of Service

    We will dedicate our morning to cross-divisional service initiatives, educating and collaborating on Earth Week and the School Supply Drive.
  • Calvert Parent Education Series: Ross Wehner, World Leadership School

    Parents are invited for a night of education with speaker Ross Wehner. Ross is the founder of the World Leadership School, the mission of which is to empower young leaders to find new and innovative solutions to the world’s pressing problems. 
  • AIMS Learning to Lead

    Calvert School hosts Learning to Lead, the premier regional workshop for teachers seeking to inspire leadership in students. Ross Wehner serves as keynote, and over 150 student and teacher attendees are expected.
  • Earth Week

    All school celebration of Earth Day that promotes environmental awareness, service, advocacy, and sustainability in our school and city.
  • School Supply Drive

    All School clothing drive to support Bags of Love and schools in Puerto Rico.
  • Baltimore MS Student Diversity Leadership Conference

    Our Diversity Club takes a pronounced leadership role in the planning and facilitation of this inspiring day that celebrates diversity in our schools. The welcomes guest speakers, over 200 students, and includes breakout sessions and activities to break down barriers, navigate difficult conversations, and promote equality in our schools.
  • Middle Grades Partnership (MGP) Closing Leadership Summit

    In coalition with the Middle Grades Partnership and its eighteen member schools, The Institute for Leadership & Purpose is spearheading a school-year leadership program focusing on civic leadership in Baltimore. April 27th marks our full-day Leadership Summit that welcomes over 200 students from across the city.
  • Middle School Environmental Leadership Summit

    Sponsored by BGE in recognition of our $5,000 grant for sustainability, the MS Environmental Leadership Summit will bring together middle school environmentalists from over a dozen area schools to learn and be inspired to Green Baltimore and our schools.
In addition to the various activities listed above, Middle School students will participate in outdoor educational activities in the fall.
