Director of Extended Day Programs

Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is searching for a full-time Director of Extended Day Programs for the 2025-26 school year. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83. 
 
The Director of Extended Day Programs is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of the after-school and extended care programs. This includes managing staff, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for students, coordinating activities, and maintaining communication with families and school administration. The Director will be required to work from 9:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, throughout the school year. 
 
Responsibilities include the following:
  • Program Management:
    • Design and implement age-appropriate enrichment activities and recreational opportunities.  Assist with the distribution of daily snack. Manage the inventory of supplies, games, and other items needed to operate the program. 
    • Ensure the program aligns with the school’s mission and educational goals.
    • Monitor daily operations and maintain a safe, structured environment.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for families regarding program activities, behavior management, and scheduling.
    • Address student behavioral issues in a constructive and professional manner.
    • Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and communications.
    • Partner with the Finance Office to manage the program budget.
    • Coordinate with school staff, teachers, and administrators to support student needs.
    • Coordinate communication about program calendars, newsletters, and event updates with the Division Heads and Marketing and Communications Manager.
  • Staff Supervision and Development:
    • Partner with the Human Resources Department to hire extended day staff and ensure adherence to state licensing regulations and school policies.
    • Supervise staff and create schedules to ensure appropriate staff-to-student ratios are maintained and compliant with state regulations. 
    • Conduct regular staff and training meetings.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development or a related field is preferred. 
  • Two to four years of experience working in a child care setting is required.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of child development and behavior management strategies.
  • Maryland State Department of Education and Office of Child Care requires other State certifications and Calvert will provide training, if needed. 
Calvert School offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The salary is based on years of experience, education, and job-related responsibilities and the salary range is $50,000 to $70,000.  Calvert School offers medical, prescription, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans.
