Full-Time Assistant Child Care Teacher
Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is searching for a full-time Assistant Child Care Teacher for its Kiddie Calvert program. The position will be available for the 2025-26 school year and the teacher will start in August 2025. The Assistant Teacher will work 10-months and the hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M.
Kiddie Calvert is a childcare center providing care to children ages 10-weeks to four years old. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
The Assistant Teacher will play a vital role in supporting lead teachers and ensuring a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for young children. Responsibilities include helping to plan and implement appropriate age activities that promote physical, emotional, and cognitive development. The teacher will assist with daily routines such as feeding, diapering, and naptime, while also maintaining cleanliness and organization in the classroom. Assistant teachers help monitor children to ensure their safety, manage behavior in a positive manner, and provide individual attention as needed.
Qualifications of the ideal candidate include the following:
- A high school diploma and must be 20 years or older and have had some prior childcare experience.
- Maryland Senior Staff qualification (possessing a 90-hour certification) or holding an associate’s degree in Early Child Care (ECC) preferred.
- First Aid and CPR certified preferred (will provide training for certification, if needed).
- Must have a strong work ethic, be dependable, and have strong communication skills.
The salary range is $18.00 to $20.00 and is based on years of experience, certifications, and job-related responsibilities. In addition, Calvert School offers a retirement savings plan and sick and safe leave benefits. A State of Maryland and FBI background checks will be performed.
