Part-Time Certified Athletic Trainer or Nurse (Per Diem Position)

Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has an opening for a part-time Athletic Trainer or Registered Nurse to attend home athletic games throughout the 2025-26 school year.

Calvert has a robust athletics program for our middle school students in Sixth through Eighth Grades. 
 
Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83. 
 
We are seeking qualified and experienced Athletic Trainers or Registered Nurses to provide medical coverage at middle school athletic events. This is a per diem/seasonal position ideal for professionals with a background in trauma, emergency care, or orthopedics. The role includes evaluating and managing minor injuries, providing first aid, and ensuring the safety and well-being of student-athletes during competitions.
 
Coverage is needed for a variety of sports throughout the school year, including but not limited to football, soccer, basketball, and track. Applicants do not need to be available for all games—multiple candidates will be hired to ensure coverage across the seasons.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide on-site medical coverage during scheduled middle school athletic games.
  • Assess and manage acute injuries and medical emergencies.
  • Administer basic first aid, CPR, and other emergency care as necessary.
  • Coordinate with school staff, coaches, and parents/guardians in case of injury.
  • Recommend follow-up care or referral to appropriate medical professionals when needed.
  • Document incidents and treatments in accordance with school and medical guidelines. 
 
Qualifications:
  • Certification as one of the following:
    • Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) with current state licensure.
    • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with trauma or orthopedic experience.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Experience in emergency response, orthopedic injuries, or sports medicine preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and respond quickly in high-pressure situations.
  • Must have the ability to work with independence in dealing with the diverse elements of the academic environment. This position requires absolute confidentiality and professionalism.
 
Preferred:
  • Prior experience working with student-athletes or in a school/sports environment.
  • Flexibility to cover weeknight and weekend games.
 
Schedule and Compensation:
  • Schedule: Variable; weekday afternoons/evenings and occasional weekends during sports seasons.
  • Compensation: $100/game.
