Long-Term Assistant Substitute Teacher
Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has an opening for a temporary Assistant Teacher in its Lower School. This position is available in mid-January through mid-April. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
The Assistant Teacher will support lead teachers in Kindergarten (Fifth Age) and Pre-First (Sixth Age). They will work to create a warm, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment that promotes the academic, social, and emotional growth of students. The Assistant Teacher will work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to implement the daily program, ensure student safety, and foster a love of learning in each child.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the lead teacher in implementing daily lessons and classroom activities aligned with the school’s curriculum and philosophy.
- Assist in preparing instructional materials, classroom displays, and learning centers.
- Provide individual and small-group support to students to reinforce learning concepts.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, recess, lunch, and classroom transitions to ensure a safe and positive environment.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom.
- Communicate effectively and positively with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school events as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning of the classroom and school community.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field preferred.
- Prior experience working with young children in a school or childcare setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and follow guidance from lead teachers.
- Enthusiasm for working with children and supporting their growth in a joyful learning environment.
Schedule and Compensation
- Compensation is $160.00/day.
- Work hours typically align with school hours, which are 7:45 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.
