Jean Harvey Baker '45 Visits Eighth Grade History

Calvert School welcomed Jean Harvey Baker '45 to campus on Wednesday, November 9th, to speak to Justin Short's Eighth Grade History Class. Dr. Baker is a distinguished American Historian and professor emerita at Goucher College, where she was the Bennett-Hartwood Professor of History. Dr. Baker is also a renowned writer of historical biographies and was a National Endowment for the Humanities fellow in 1982. She is the author of many nineteenth-century American history books.
Dr. Baker's father, F. Barton Harvey, Class of 1905, led Calvert's Board of Trustees in 1939. Many of her family members also graduated from Calvert including son Rob W. Baker '71, siblings, nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
 
"Dr. Baker's visit was a big hit!" Mr. Short said, "She did a wonderful job engaging the Eighth Graders; it was great to have an expert visit and talk about exactly what we have been studying."
