Calvert @ Krieger Schecter

Click for a brief write up of our first game
The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and Calvert soccer was dominating the competition. The fall season must be underway!
The Mighty Bees got off to a rollicking start. About three minutes into the match, the girls worked it up to our strikers on a counterattack. When it got up to Staley, she sent the ball on to Daly who finished the play off beautifully with a strong strike. Then, not even two minutes later, we won a free kick just outside the penalty box. Pruette came up from her position on defense to take it, and sent in a beautifully placed shot over the keepers head to double our advantage. Throughout the rest of the half, our defense continued to stymie every potential attack, leaving Athey not much to do between the posts.
The second half got off to an even faster start. Two minutes after the whistle blew, Tobin took the ball down the left flank, cut inside and past two defenders, then sent a cracker past the keeper to put us up 3-0. The scoring took a bit of a break at that point, as players started going in at new positions. The defense continued to hold strong with Rodgers making a few keys stops, Miller controlling the action from the center, and Marsiglia putting herself in the right position to make plays. Finally, with about 10 minutes left in the half, the ball was bouncing around the penalty area, just asking to be finished. Fortunately, Borg was there to oblige and sent a shot into the bottom corner to give us a 4-0 advantage. The scoring was finished when Irby was played through into the box by a point perfect pass from Daly, and she finished with aplomb. Unfortunately, with the clock winding down, we gave up our clean sheet on a well organized attack up the right side and a nicely taken shot beat our keeper from close range. Despite the last minute goal from the opposition, it was a wonderful first game and a great way to kick off the season. There's still plenty of room for improvement, but we showed that we're capable of some great soccer too.
