Calvert vs RPCS

Soccer can be a fickle game, and today was just another example.
The game started off rough, with the first 5 minutes being played mostly on our half. However, the tide started to turn once we got our legs under us. The game continued to get pushed towards their half and we had a number of good opportunities before half. Through balls sent by Woodworth and Mangum almost led to goals, and the defensive midfield, led by Stevens, Wilson, and Graham, kept the ball moving forward. Just before the half RPCS almost had a chance for a one-on-one with the keeper, but Irby ran down the opposing striker and snuffed the attack out before a shot could even be taken.
The second half started off similar to the first. Luckily, an outstanding save by Staley kept the score knotted at 0. Unfortunately, a few minutes later RPCS broke through and grabbed the first goal of the game. We spent the next ten minutes sending wave after wave at their defense, but we were always one pass or one touch away from getting our big opportunity. Despite our best efforts and outplaying them for the better part of that period, RPCS was able to grab a second goal and take a two goal advantage. There was still time left to come back, and we were able to take one goal back on a perfectly weighted through ball from Stevens to Tobin, who then dribbled thirty yards before putting her shot past the keeper. The last five minutes were a scramble to tie it up, but we weren't able to break through again. It was a valiant effort though and a well played game on both sides. We look forward to getting back at it next week and getting our second win of the season.
