Calvert vs Harford Day

This was an entertaining game and well played by both sides. The first half was a bit nervy. We got on top first with a great finish by Staley from the middle of the box just five minutes into the match. We settled in a bit after that and had plenty of possession and opportunities. However, about 9 minutes into the half, Harford Day broke through with an impressive run up the wing and there was nothing Athey could do with it. We almost went in to half tied, but with 6 minutes remaining, Staley put a pass in front of Tucker who had her first shot saved, but followed it up for a nice tap in goal.
After a few half time talking points, we came out ready to put the game in the bag. Not one minute into the second, Tucker was at it again. She won the ball in the offensive third, took a few dribbles, and finished it off herself. These sorts of runs have become her trademark on the season. Unfortunately, our insurance goal didn't last long. A short time later, Harford was able to pounce on a clearance that didn't quite make it far enough and got a shot on goal that Staley had no chance at. This brought us back to a one goal lead. Unlike last week though, we weren't going to let them equalize. With ten minutes left, we got that insurance goal back when Stevens won the ball just outside the box and took a shot from there. It was a sizzling shot and the keeper was helpless to save it. Then, about four minutes later, we were awarded a PK. Daly stepped up without hesitation, calling her number to take the shot. She hit a rocket, but it hit the post. However, ever the vigilant striker with a nose for goal, Daly leaped on the rebound and put no doubt on the follow up. The score was 5-2, but we weren't done yet. Not even two minutes after that, Tucker completed her hat trick. She went on yet another run through the opposing defense, leaving a wake of befuddled defenders on her way to tickling the back of the net for a third time. This proved to be the final nail and secured the 6-2 victory. The rest of our week has two gold games, and then we're off to the playoffs to finish the season. Let's keep sharp out there!
