Game Recap #8

Daryl S. Solee
Yesterday, we wrapped up our eighth and final regular season game as we faced off against Friends School of Baltimore! This game had special significance as it marked the final time our 8th graders played competitive soccer on Krongrad Field in front of their home fans.

The first half got off to a slow start, with our boys managing to secure just one goal against a very disciplined defense from our opponents. We took the 1-0 lead into halftime, leaving everyone on the edge of their seats. As the second half kicked off, the Calvert boys came out with renewed determination. They skillfully moved the ball around the pitch and timed their shots to perfection, scoring four more goals from open play.

Our 7th and 8th graders continued giving it their all until the last whistle. With only 40 seconds remaining in the game, one of our 7th-grade wingbacks (JL) was fouled in the opponent's box, earning our team a penalty kick. The excitement was palpable as our 8th grade CAM (JM) stepped up to take this crucial kick. Could the middle school soccer league scriptwriters have written a better ending? It seemed so, as JM expertly netted the goal to the goalkeeper's right, bringing joy and happiness to his teammates!

As the final whistle blew, our boys celebrated with delight, and JM, our hero of the afternoon, could not stop smiling from ear to ear, having scored his very first Calvert goal, bringing the final score to 6-0.

I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to this incredible group of kids I've had the privilege of coaching this season. The improvement we've witnessed from our first game at Gilman to where we are now is nothing short of remarkable. Congratulations on an undefeated season, boys- you've earned it.

Now, our sights are set on the BAC tournament. Get ready to continue this thrilling journey with us as we aim for even more success.

Go Calvert!
