Calvert vs Friends

What a way to go into a week off from games! Once again, it was a two completely different halves of soccer. In the first half, we got off to a good start when just 4 minutes into the game Tobin had a great run up the sideline. She sent a cross into the box that went through the keeper and found Daly's foot who sent the ball into the goal. After that though, it was quiet. We dominated possession, kept the ball on their half, and gave our keeper, Graham, a very easy job. The defenders, namely Wilson, Athey, Nkansah-Mahaney, Greer, and Borg, did a great job protecting our keeper.
In the second half, we came out confident that we could grow our lead. Thanks to some pressure, we doubled our lead quickly with an own goal to start the half. After five more minutes of pressing, we scored again. It came from Graham, who took the ball off the keeper cleanly to score. At this point, Friends got their lone goal, which was well taken. Then, over the next 15 minutes, our lead swelled. First, Tobin and Daly connected once again. This time, Tobin took the short option on the corner to Daly, who put in a gorgeous, curling shot. The fifth goal was one of the most deserved of the season. Green had been working hard all game to win the ball for us in the attack and setting up her teammates with good passes. This time though, she was the one with the opportunity and she took advantage. She took a shot from outside the box and while it almost didn't make it, the ball crossed the line and she was on the score sheet. Finally, the ledger was closed when Filling earned a corner when he shot was handled in the box. Since it was her shot, she got the PK attempt, and she ran with the chance. The shot had no doubt from the moment the ball hit her foot, and we had 6 on the board. It was a great game to lead us into the playoffs in a little over a week.
