Lower School Assistant Teacher

Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is seeking two dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Teachers to join our school community for the 2026-27 school year. These positions are part of a two-year fellowship program designed to support early-career educators as they build strong instructional skills, deepen their understanding of elementary education, and grow within a collaborative, student-centered environment.
 
Ideal candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree in elementary education or a related field and demonstrate a genuine passion for working with young learners. Fellows will partner closely with lead teachers, contribute to dynamic classroom experiences, and engage in ongoing professional development throughout the program. This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring educators to gain meaningful, hands-on experience while being mentored by experienced faculty.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the lead teacher in implementing daily lessons and classroom activities aligned with the school’s curriculum and philosophy.
  • Assist in preparing instructional materials, classroom displays, and learning centers.
  • Provide individual and small-group support to students to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, recess, lunch, and classroom transitions to ensure a safe and positive environment. Promote a respectful, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom.
  • Communicate effectively and positively with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school events as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning of the classroom and school community.
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, elementary education, or a related field.
  • Prior experience working with young children in a school or childcare setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and follow guidance from lead teachers.
  • Enthusiasm for working with children and supporting their growth in a joyful learning environment.
Calvert School offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The salary for Assistant Teachers is $45,000. Candidates with additional teaching experience and/or advanced degrees may receive a higher salary.
