Calvert vs McDonogh

What a way to finish a season! We came into this final game feeling good after a well earned victory at Friends. We were looking forward to ending our season with a win, but it was clear from the get go that this was not going to be an easy win. Just like the day before, we went into the half scoreless and a bit sore from a very physical first 25 minutes.
The second half didn't get off to a great start. In the first few minutes there was a miscommunication in the defense and McDonogh was able to take advantage. We were down 1-0. That deficit didn't last long though, as Tobin cut through the defense and tied the game up about one minute later. That quick turnaround really turned the tide and took some wind out of their sales, as we suddenly had momentum. We kept up the pressure and spent the next 15 minutes searching for the game winner, and we finally got it in the form of Lauer scoring her 6th of the season with just 4 minutes remaining. It was another clutch goal from Lauer, and we just had to see out the final few minutes with some solid defense. In reality, we were closer to scoring a third to giving up the second. It was a beautiful way to finish off the season.
With that, we're closing the door on this season. Thank you to all of the parents and family members who took the time to watch our games, pick up our players, and support us in countless other ways. A successful season would be impossible without you. A thank you to Coach Glover for being there day in and day out and helping me with strategy and planning for each game and practice. I apologize for taking up so much of her planning times during the season! Finally, thank you to our 8th graders and captains. Green, Greer, Nkansah-Mahaney, and Tobin led us through an incredible season. They were leaders on and off the pitch. Even though it was a small class of players, they had an incredible impact and we'll miss them greatly next year. So to our 8th graders, thank you for your experience, play, and leadership. Good luck to you wherever you head next. Remember you'll always have a home here on the Calvert soccer team. To our 6th and 7th graders, let's come back next year and win another championship. Go Mighty Bees!
