Leadership Speaker Series

On Monday and Wednesday, Calvert welcomed Baltimore community leaders to the Middle School to speak to students and connect them with people in our community who are making a difference. By introducing our students to a variety of leaders, we can inspire our student body in different ways.
Mr. Fagan Harris, CEO of Baltimore Corps and a Rhodes Scholar, discussed how he learned from his failures as a young community leader. He mentioned how his own mentor had reminded him that leaders often find "their face covered in mud." He recalls this when he faces adversity and takes on risks. Mrs. Amy Seto, COO of Baltimore Community Foundation, recalled how as a young girl she learned the value of connecting with people face-to-face as she traveled Hong Kong with her father. Mr. Anil Lewis of the National Federation of the Blind discussed how he looked up to his mother as an everyday hero, someone who selflessly put her kids first and helped him reach his goals. Mr. Keith Hill, Vice President for Corporate Security at Johns Hopkins, discussed his career path through the Secret Service and implored the kids to find a career they are passionate about so they can inspire others.

Last month, Mr. Terrell Williams and Mr. Rob English of BUILD (Baltimore United in Leadership Development spoke to the Seventh Grade. The lessons presented by our speakers will provide a valuable platform for discussion in leadership class and beyond.
