Shrek: The Musical, Jr. Dazzles Sold Out Crowds!

The curtains may have closed on the Middle School performance of Shrek: The Musical, Jr., but the excitement can still be felt across campus! After months of hard work, the crew of talented actors proudly took to the stage to perform for the Calvert community in a series of three sold out shows over the weekend. The show truly was a community-wide effort with parents, alumni, and faculty helping make the show a success. Head Master Andrew Holmgren, even got in on the action by helping to paint part of the set before Opening Night. Most impressively, 41 Middle School students participated in the production!
Middle School Performing Arts teacher, Alexis Tantau, directed the ensemble cast with help from Assistant Director, Betsey Hobelmann ’87. According to Ms. Tantau, the students were as excited as she was to take on Shrek. “It was so exciting to see students digging in to their characters. I’d give them a small staging suggestion and they’d take it and run. It’s so rewarding to see them make these bold choices, taking risks and having them pay off.”

With this newest theatrical success in the books, we are all singing “I’m a Believer” and excitedly looking forward to future productions from the Calvert School players. Brava!
