Calvert vs Cathedral

After a disappointing loss, the girls bounced back with a strong win against a Cathedral squad that was looking to beat us two years in a row. We took control from the opening whistle with good possession and a few dangerous moments. The first breakthrough came at the about 8 minutes into the game when Pruette won an opponent's puntand played a gorgeous through ball to Daly. As our top returning scorer from last season, Daly knew exactly what to do with it and put the ball in the back of the net and gave us a lead we would never give up. In fact, barely 3 minutes later, we gave ourselves a two goal lead thanks to a wonder strike by Pruette from outside the box. For the rest of the half, Cathedral was able to keep off the scoreboard, but we also showed some wonderful defending and kept our goalkeeper Athey clean.
In the second half, it was looking like we might not be able to pad our lead. Cathedral started playing more defensively and seemed to be content with simply not giving up any more goals. However, we would not be denied. With a little over 4 minutes left in the game, there was a scrum in the box and Graham found a loose ball off a rebound. She put her foot through the ball and sent a screamer off the crossbar and down into the goal to give us the 3 goals we fought so hard for. It was wonderful performance from start to finish and we kept the clean sheet for the first time this season.
