Calvert @ St James

The girls put on a great performance today. While we still took a loss, they looked good and played well from start to finish. St James opened the scoring 4 minutes into the game. After that though, our defense shut them down the rest of the game. Graham had an outstanding save to help keep the score at one, stonewalling a striker inside the six yard box. The defense, led by Rodgers and Borg in the middle, stayed organized, while Marsiglia and Nkansah-Mahaney did a great job stepping up when they needed to. Green and Padousis led the attack, and while we almost broke through once or twice, we went into the half without a goal.
When the second half started, we got right back into the game and were even able to tie it up. Tucker took a good shot, only to have it saved by the keeper. Luckily, Daly was following the play and was able to pick up the rebound for a goal. Over the next ten minutes or so, we kept it tied and we thought for a while that we might be able to take the lead. Meanwhile, Stevens was locking down the goal area. One particular save saw her reaching high to catch a shot that most keepers wouldn't have had a shot at saving. Unfortunately, the game took a turn in the last few minutes. St James was able to score twice at the end to close out the scoring at 3-1. We'll look forward to facing St James again in the playoffs, but for now our eyes are set on Friends.
