Quarter Finals vs KSDS

The girls came into the tournament this year hungry and with a bit of a chip on their shoulders. We were seeded 3rd, thanks to a close loss against St James, but they knew we were better than that and were determined to prove it. Thankfully, that's exactly what happened. Just two minutes into the game, we had worked the ball wonderfully up the left side to Tobin. She gave a little drop pass to Pruette who sent a high shot over the keepers head and into the netting from long range. We didn't look back from there. The second goal came from an equally long strike by Stevens on the right side after she won the ball back herself. The final goal of the half saw Tobin get her second assist of the game. This time, she was in a tight space along the touchline. She saw an opening for a pass back to Staley, who was pushing towards the goal and sent a beautiful shot past the keeper. The defense had little to do this half, with Athey rarely touching the ball. There were a few moments that had our hearts pumping, but Rodgers was able to keep the opponents out of them middle, while Irby, Miller, and Wilson did a good job stopping attacks along the outside.
In the second half, Tobin finally got a goal to go with her assists. It was a top in on the far post after two strikers ran at the keeper after a Walton shot and scared her into dropping the catch. Daly got on the end of the next one, poaching a goal off the edge of the goal after the team had a wonderful build up. Next, Green did a great job winning the ball in the middle of the offensive third while keeping her head up. She sent an inch perfect ball ahead of Woodworth who was able to run onto it, cut inside, and hit a shot through the keepers legs. Finally, Filling rounded out the scoring with a run up the left flank and a gorgeous shot over the keeper's head.
We did a great job not underestimating our opponent this time, and we'll have to keep our heads sharp tomorrow as well. We have a match up with Odyssey next, who we didn't play this season. With a win tomorrow, we'll likely be headed for a rematch with St James, where we can hopefully avenge a close loss. For now though, it's one game at a time and our focus in on Odyssey!
