Semi Finals vs Odyssey

What a match! I still don't know if my heart rate has returned to normal. We came into today's game ready for a good game. The girls were pumped up and we came out on fire. The girls played with passion as we created multiple opportunities all over the field. However, Odyssey wasn't going to go down easy. They had their fair share of chances too, but our defense was up to the challenge. It was a hard fought half, but we had our breakthrough with about 10 minutes remaining. Stevens came up with a long throw into the box. As the ball bounced through multiple defenders, the keeper came up to claim. Luckily, Tucker was tracking it all along and was able to throw off the keeper just enough to get a foot on it and tap it in. That was the goal we needed and gave us an edge going into the second half.
In the second half, it was more of the same. It was evenly matched, with both teams getting opportunities. This time, it was Odyssey that jumped on it. They won the ball back on a goal kick and quickly got close enough for a shot. Graham made a fantastic attempt at the save, but there was nothing she could do. They had their equalizer. The rest of the half saw a few good opportunities, but none we could capitalize on. As the clock wound down, Odyssey had one last attempt on a long free kick, but it sailed harmlessly past the far post and we were headed to overtime.
The overtime period was meant to be two, 5 minute halves. Penalty kicks would follow if it was still tied. However, we didn't need all of that. Less than one minute after the overtime kick off, Tucker went on a run up the middle. She beat a few defenders, made it to the top of the box, and took her shot. As the keeper bent over to pick it up, she wasn't able to get down fast enough and the ball trickled through her legs into the net. The game was over on a golden goal and the girls rushed the field! It was an incredible ending and ships us off to the finals, and a rematch with St James on Thursday. Let's go win it all!
