The Invincibles

Daryl S. Solee
For supporters of English Football, "The Invincibles" is a cherished nickname that dates back to Arsenal's remarkable 2003-2004 season. The Gunners earned this nickname by going unbeaten in the league. Fast forward two decades, and we proudly anoint new "Invincibles" as our Mighty Bees Boys soccer team concluded another triumphant season as champions, maintaining an unblemished record in the league and bringing the championship trophy back home for the second consecutive year.

The Mighty Bees concluded their magical season with a thrilling victory over Harford Day. In a closely contested first half, both teams had opportunities but could not capitalize. Thanks to a remarkable save by our goalkeeper, PE, we entered halftime, all tied up at 0-0.

During the halftime break, The coaches made minor adjustments, and the team began to find their rhythm. We controlled the wings and delivered precise passes to our forwards, setting them up for scoring opportunities. The boys executed strategies we'd been working on all season, resulting in an opening goal by our striker AM, putting us ahead 1-0 with an outstanding strike. This goal was the spark that the team needed to believe in their championship aspirations. They continued to apply pressure and intensity, extending their lead to 2-0 with a clutch goal by our other striker and El Capitan "Ronaldo" aka CK. While the opponents managed to score in the final moments, the outcome was never in doubt. Our boys were crowned champions once again.

I can not express how proud I am of this team and these young men. Coaching them has been a true blessing, and I am so grateful to have been placed in the position to lead them. I am incredibly proud of the outstanding leadership that our 8th graders have exhibited all season long. I'll miss coaching them next year, but I hope they come back at some point to visit and lead a practice or two. They have genuinely left their mark on Calvert Soccer. To the 7th graders, you were the glue that held this team together. Thank you for doing the little things to help a team run, such as always taking in equipment after practices. I appreciate your commitment to our vision. I look forward to another season with all of you.

Finally, to the parents, thank you for your kind messages throughout this season and the beautiful card. I am grateful you trusted me to coach your young men. Please get in touch with me if there is anything I can do to help the boys as they navigate through Middle School the rest of the year (The Lower School and my office are not that far away). You were great assistant coaches. Thank you for screaming, "You gotta talk, boys," on the sidelines. You've done a fantastic job raising them into kind, respectful, and brave young men.

Enjoy your victory, boys. You deserved it.
