Calvert and the Baltimore Community

Rooted in Baltimore. Connected to Our Community.

For more than a century, Calvert School has been proud to call Baltimore home. Our connection to the city extends well beyond our campus, reflecting a commitment to community engagement, meaningful partnerships, and the belief that education is enriched by the world around us.

Through relationships with local nonprofit organizations, cultural institutions, and educational programs, Calvert students have opportunities to learn from their community while making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Giving Back to Baltimore

At Calvert, service to others is a natural extension of our core values of honor, compassion, respect, and responsibility. We believe that helping children understand the importance of contributing to their community is an essential part of their education.

Throughout the year, Calvert students, faculty, and families support organizations addressing a wide range of community needs, including food insecurity, family assistance, animal welfare, inclusion, and neighborhood enrichment.

Our community service partners include Paul’s Place, Baltimore Hunger Project, ShareBaby, First Fruits Farm, Art with a Heart, Special Olympics Maryland, BARCS, SAFE Alternative, and Sunrise Senior Living. Calvert has also collaborated with Bon Secours Urban Farm, supporting its work in community agriculture and neighborhood well-being.

Through these relationships, our students learn that meaningful service begins with compassion, grows through understanding, and is sustained by a commitment to others.

Baltimore as Our Classroom

Baltimore is home to world-class museums, cultural institutions, and educational resources that provide extraordinary opportunities for learning beyond the classroom.

Calvert students benefit from experiences at the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore Museum of Art, Maryland Science Center, National Aquarium, and Maryland Zoo, where classroom lessons come to life through encounters with art, history, science, and the natural world. Experiences with Living Classrooms Foundation further connect students to Baltimore’s rich maritime history, waterways, and environment.

These opportunities deepen students’ understanding of the world, encourage curiosity, and help them develop a lasting appreciation for the city in which they learn and grow.

Proud to Be Part of Baltimore

Our relationship with Baltimore is one of shared opportunity and mutual benefit. We are grateful for the organizations, institutions, and individuals who welcome our students and enrich their education, just as we are proud to support the important work being done throughout our community.

At Calvert, we want our students to understand that being part of a community means more than simply living in it. It means learning from others, building relationships, and recognizing our responsibility to contribute.

Baltimore is an important part of the Calvert experience, and Calvert is proud to be part of Baltimore.
