  • Bikes for the World

Calvert is hosting an all-school Bike Drive this November in support of Bikes for the World.

Who will the Bike Drive support?
Bikes for the World is an organization whose mission is to provide good quality, used bicycles to low income people in developing countries.

How can I support the drive?
If you have an old bike at home that you no longer use, this is the perfect way to donate it.

When will this event take place?
You can drop off any used bikes on Friday November 11, between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM. This is Parent-Teacher Conference Day. If that day does not work for you, we will also be hosting a second community drop-off day for people outside the Calvert community on Saturday November 12 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Where will this event take place?
Drop offs will take place in the Middle School lower circle. We will have a tent set-up and student volunteers to receive you and help you unload your bicycle.

    Why are we doing this?
This all-school event supports an important community partner, Bikes for the World. This event gives us the opportunity to meet a need and learn more about sustainable development and global issues impacting people around the world.

Who is involved in this effort?
This event is sponsored by our eighth grade student leadership group: Environmental Stewards. Student volunteers will be helping out each day of the drive, including learning how to do simple bike maintenance so that the bikes can be tuned up and loaded onto a truck to go to the Bikes for the World warehouse.

Can I tell my friends and neighbors?
You can absolutely let people outside Calvert know that we will host a collection day for non-Calvert families to donate any used bikes on Saturday November 12. Feel free to share this flier with them.

If you are interested in learning more, please contact Sarah DeCamps, Director of the Institute for Leadership and Purpose or Timika Tyson, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Thanksgiving Food Drive

Calvert is hosting an all-school Thanksgiving Meal Drive in November to combat food insecurity in Baltimore and give back during the Thanksgiving holiday. Collectively, we will be putting together over 45 Thanksgiving meals for families in Baltimore.

Who will the Thanksgiving Drive support?
We will work in partnership with Paul's Place and Hampden Family Center to support community organizations who aim to address issues of hunger and food insecurity.

How can I support the drive?
With the help of each student’s homeroom teacher, every child in both the Lower School and the Middle School will sign up to donate a specific non-perishable item from our list. The lists will be sent home to families so parents know which item their child should bring.

When will this event take place?
Students will bring in their items during the weeks of October 31 and November 7 and drop them off in the designated baskets in their homeroom. Items will be due by Monday November 14.

    Why are we doing this?
This all-school event supports community partners in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday and is a tangible way for members of the Calvert community to practice giving while also learning about local issues of hunger and food insecurity.

Who is involved in this effort?
Everyone! All Calvert students and faculty will contribute to the Thanksgiving baskets. Lower School students will also have the opportunity to write cards, which will be included in the baskets. Eighth grade student leaders will work together with other Middle School volunteers to collect the baskets from the homerooms, put them together, and deliver them to our community partners during the week leading up to Thanksgiving.

If you are interested in learning more, please contact Sarah DeCamps, Director of the Institute for Leadership and Purpose or Timika Tyson, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Calvert School is a coed independent lower and middle school.
