MLK Jr. Day of Service

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?”
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the Calvert School community is partnering with the non-profit organization Rise Against Hunger to package meals for families facing food shortages on Monday, January 15.

Calvert families are invited to join us on campus for an all-school meal-packing event. Our goal is to come together as a community to package approximately 30,000 meals of rice and soy.

Volunteers are needed to work in every stage of packing, including funneling grains into packages, weighing food packages, sealing packages, and boxing them up for delivery through Rise Against Hunger.

We will organize volunteers into two shifts, and each shift will begin with coffee and donuts followed by a brief orientation and packaging tutorial:
  • Volunteers for Shift 1 are asked to arrive to the Middle School Atrium at 9:00 A.M. (Packing will begin promptly at 9:30 A.M. and end at 10:30 A.M.)
  • Volunteers for Shift 2 are asked to arrive to the Middle School Atrium at 10:00 A.M. (Packing will begin promptly at 10:30 A.M. and end at 11:30 A.M.)

Additional Notes:
  • All participants must register ahead of January 15.
  • Children of all ages may participate, but all children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All volunteers aged 18+ will be asked to sign a waiver ahead of participating. These will be available at the event.
  • Please limit yourself and your family members to one volunteer shift. This will allow us to include additional members of the Calvert community.
