Catching Up with Adams Siblings Chris ’99, Taylor ’05, and Grace ’12
When former Calvert School parents Gina and Delbert Adams moved to Baltimore, neither of them expected to send their kids to private school. They were new to the area and just starting out, and both of them had grown up going to public school– but as son Chris ’99 got older, they kept hearing about Calvert.
“When we started a family, the people we had met through business and our neighborhood would go ‘Oh my gosh, you have to look at Calvert School,’ and so we started to look and see what Calvert was about,” Gina said.
After Chris enrolled, his sisters Taylor ’05 and Grace ’12 soon followed, with each of them finding a place within Calvert’s welcoming halls and warm community.
“All three are very different and have very different learning styles,” Gina said. “But they managed to use the Calvert method and learn and be happy and successful in the environment.”
Now, the Adams siblings are spread out across the country, exceling in their respective fields and building off the strong foundations they formed at Calvert.
Chris Adams ’99 is an associate at Evergreen Advisors Capital in Columbia, Maryland, where he assists with mergers and acquisitions related to buying and selling mid-sized companies. He has previously worked for Moag & Company and KPMG and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC).
This spring, he also earned his executive MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.
While his May graduation was made virtual due to COVID-19, Chris was elected by his class to speak at a postponed ceremony in 2021, and he graduates from the program with more than a degree. Together with a few of his classmates, Chris recently started a new business, a sports entertainment company – called SharpRank – that uses proprietary algorithms to provide cross-sport performance rankings of professional sports gamblers, or “Sharps.”
He is also recently married, having wed wife Jamie, a pediatric oncology dietitian at Johns Hopkins, in a ceremony last September. The pair are expecting their first child early next year and have settled in Towson’s Rodgers Forge neighborhood – not far from grandparents-to-be Gina and Delbert.
Taylor Adams ’05 has stayed busy with work over the past few months, traveling to places like Arkansas and New Jersey as part of her job with the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LGPA). Since graduating from Wake Forest University in 2013, Taylor started work as an intern and community outreach coordinator, moved to Phoenix Arizona, and became a tournament coordinator with the organization. Now a tournament manager, her biggest project is the Kia Classic, an annual tournament based in Carlsbad, California, near her home in San Diego. With the event postponed until March 2021 due to COVID-19, Taylor has been traveling around the country to assist with different tournaments.
While always interested to work in the sports industry, her interest in golf began in college, when she took an elective class during her senior year. Throughout her travels, Taylor continues to connect with the friends she made at Calvert.
Grace Adams ’12, a dancer, planned to move to New York this fall after graduating from Southern Methodist University (SMU) with her BFA in dance performance, but her plans changed when the city shut down due to COVID-19. Fortunately, Grace landed on her feet.
Living in Dallas, Texas, she is using this unexpected year to earn a master’s degree from SMU’s Temerlin Advertising Institute – plans she initially deferred to pursue dance in New York. She is also working as a marketing intern with Chris’ company SharpRank, managing their social media accounts while gaining valuable experience.
Despite challenges caused by COVID-19, Grace continues to dance when she can, and she may resume her New York plans when performances return. For now, though, she is studying hard and enjoying her classes at Temerlin, embodying the Calvert commitment to lifelong learning.
“We feel really lucky that Calvert School was a part of the education of all three,” Gina said of her kids.
Calvert School is a coed independent lower and middle school.
