Calvert Safety Video Claims Second Place in InspirED School Marketers Brilliance Awards

Calvert School won a 2020 Silver InspirED School Marketers Brilliance Award this week for a comforting and creative COVID-19 safety video shared before the first day of school. Praised for its “feel-good” nature and fun attitude, the video took second place in the Brilliance Awards’ COVID-19 Communications category, claiming a top spot over other impressive submissions.

Produced by Marketing & Communications Manager Amy Vu with guidance from Nurse Katie Macsherry, the video follows Head Master Andrew Holmgren and his friend Mighty Bee as they explain the School’s enhanced health and safety measures.

Joined by Lower School Head Elizabeth Martin, Middle School Head Matt Buck, and Fifth Age teacher Wendy Faraone, Mr. Holmgren and Mighty Bee are reminded to wear their masks, wash their hands, and practice social distancing, among other guidelines.

The Brilliance Awards judges – a panel of 69 international marketing experts – praised the video for its informative and reassuring tone, as well as the creative addition of Mighty Bee.

“A clearly communicated and fun, feel-good video, welcoming and warm incorporating Mighty Bee,” one judge said. “I especially enjoyed the opening scene, as it draws you in and reassures the audience that not everything has changed.”

“Fun use of a mascot to help the students learn what on-campus life would be like at Calvert during the pandemic,” the judge continued.

Sponsored by InspirED School Marketers, a website that provides “brilliant ideas and brain food” for private schools, the annual Brilliance Awards recognize excellent examples of private school communications, including categories for photography, enrollment materials, fundraising efforts, and print magazines. This year, the Brilliance Awards added categories for COVID-related materials.

Judges reviewed all entries and scored them on factors like creativity, persuasiveness, imagery, and overall appeal.

Thank you to Mr. Holmgren, Mrs. Martin, Mr. Buck, Mrs. Faraone, Nurse Macsherry, and Director of Admissions Nicole Webster for assisting with the video!
