Calvert Eighth Graders are once again participating in Gifting Back to Baltimore, a community art contest at Cross Keys, and we need your help to win! From now through December 31, rank your favorite snow globes and make sure Calvert is #1 to help the students earn a donation for Paul's Place.
What is Gifting Back to Baltimore?
Now in its second year, Gifting Back to Baltimore is a community art competition and gallery, sponsored by the Village of Cross Keys, that invites students from Baltimore schools to design and produce pieces to be displayed for shoppers during the holiday season. This year, Calvert is one of 14 participating schools that created "Snow Globes for Good," and on November 20, the Eighth Graders unveiled their snow globe, "Baltimore/Calvert on the Move."
The snow globe, based on Baltimore's long history with the B&O Railroad, features a 3D-printed train car and puppet conductor to guide viewers through "stops" in our city: the Domino Sugars sign, row homes in Charles Village, local murals, and more.
The piece is available to view in person at Cross Keys through December 31, and all shoppers, vendors, and visitors are invited to rank their favorites. All participating schools have partnered with a non-profit organization that will benefit as the votes and rankings roll in. Thanks to overwhelming community support, Calvert was able to claim first place in last year's competition and earn a $5,000 donation for Paul's Place — and this year's Eighth Graders are eager to keep the streak going!
